MARK HOOKER
MARK HOOKER
Showers of Support
Every artistic endeavor has its saints, the people who support you without concern for your talent. How many people are willing to push you toward your passion rather than worry about your profit? Mark Hooker is one of those angels. He took showers at 6 am in forty degrees without hot water so he could be in Blagden Alley while we tried to spin our version of the American Underground. Work took him to Tokyo and Seoul and Scandinavia before we caught up with him in Paris and gave him Version II of the Great American Underground. Now he's in the Imperial City, and Sandie and Seanie start yakking about the Third & Final Fabulous Rendition of the American Underground Burping Up Into the Mainstream, and Mark quietly signs on, a rock, doing research on the bloody internet about bringing TV to the masses with messages not dumbed down to kindergarten level. "You have to keep doing what you do," he says, "And if you can show me some old geezer on a mule with a spear pointed at an abandoned castle, I'll get out there in the desert with you. I'm not going to complain about a little sand in my shoe."
